The Tuberculosis program provides a broad range of services to people in DeSoto County. Our program consists of the comprehensive investigation and case management of active Tuberculosis (TB) Diagnosis and treatment are provided through the Florida Department of Health, Tuberculosis Physicians Network, ensuring directly-observed treatment until cured.
Contacts to active cases of TB are tested to rule out active disease and provide prophylactic therapy as indicated.
The Florida Department of Health in DeSoto County (DOH-DeSoto) conducts TB testing for those who are at risk and would be likely to complete treatment if infected. A basic premise of the Technical Assistance (TA) guidelines is that a decision to TB test an individual is a decision to treat until completion, if that person is found to be tuberculin positive.
